Pastors’ Update

Pastors’ Update

We’ve recently finished a teaching series at Revival Church entitled, ‘Jesus is Lord – So What?’ looking at what it means to make Jesus No.1 in our lives.

Much is rightly made of Jesus being our Saviour – receiving the fullness of his life – but less is made of Jesus being our Lord – giving the fullness of our lives to him.

The Bible makes clear that the two are inextricably linked (and necessary).

We not only short-change ourselves when we don’t grasp this truth but we also rob others of what we could be for them when not every aspect of our lives is marked by Jesus’ Lordship. And of course, let’s not forget that we also short-change God by withholding from him areas of our lives that we prefer to keep to ourselves.

I once heard a famous Christian actor quoted as saying that, alongside all her success in life,  Jesus was the ‘cherry on the cake’.

If Jesus is just the garnish then you have a problem!

Christianity – and therefore, Jesus – is not just an add-on but our everything.

So, how do we live this out?

Perhaps we could look at our diaries and review how much of our time we spend praying, reading the Bible, going to church, doing good works and sharing our faith. That could be one way of looking at it. But that would simply mean that Jesus was top of our priority list.

When we become a Christian, the Bible tells us that we are placed in Christ and that he now lives in us.

‘God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.’ 1 John 4:12-13

This truth changes everything because our lives are no longer compartmentalised into God and Not God but everything of our lives is in Christ as the starting point.

Jesus isn’t just top of a list but the entire list is in him.

These might include:

Education

Career

Family

Fitness

Hobbies

Friendships

Travel

Social media

Let’s be a people who don’t just say that Jesus is Lord but a people who make the outworking of it our daily pursuit.
