Pastors’ Update

A Happy Brexmas!

I hope you’ll forgive the reference to a certain dominant national issue in the heading of this Christmas update but it’s actually for the reason of drawing our attention to a significant truth that will hopefully help us.

For those of us who live in the UK, Brexit is something which not only polarises opinion but is presently causing great uncertainty for many over this Christmas period and beyond.

Change can be good but when we’re not clear as to the ramifications of that change then it can be unsettling.

The central issue of Brexit boils down to who we want to entrust the reins of leadership to. For many it feels like we’re caught between a rock and a hard place and whatever the final outcome they’re not sure who they can trust anymore.

Whilst none of us would deliberately welcome such an unsettling time it can cause us to re-evaluate the ultimate source of our security.

For those of us who would call ourselves Christians, in putting our faith in Jesus we have shifted the basis of our security from the temporal to the the eternal. That’s not to say that the here and now is unimportant but simply that we now live life from an eternal perspective allowing heaven’s influence into our everyday lives.

This doesn’t always remove difficult circumstances but it does allow God to provide, guide, encourage and strengthen us.

At Christmas we are reminded that the Son of God entered humanity as a baby to save us from our sin. But having accomplished his mission to restore humanity to God (if we will receive his free gift of salvation) Jesus’ returned to heaven where he now rules and reins as king of kings and lord of lords.

Whether we’re in the midst of the apparent turmoil of Brexit or not, handing over the reins of our lives to the lordship of Jesus is the best decision we will ever make.

With our best wishes for A Happy Christmas!
