17 Oct Does God speak to us?
Whether someone believes in God or simply believes in the notion of God, it is not uncommon for many to rule out ever hearing from him personally.
Their thinking is that if there is a God, he is perceived as being distant and unconcerned with the minutiae of our lives. Maybe he speaks to the likes of Moses or Billy Graham, but not to me.
But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The Bible is the story of a God who created humanity to have relationship with him and, within that relationship, to have two-way communication.
Not only do we get to talk to God through prayer but God loves to reciprocate by talking to us.
Which begs the question, How does God speak to us?
The answer is that God speaks to us in a variety of ways.
The most obvious is the audible voice of God, similar to that which Jesus heard when he was baptised. Whilst some do hear God in this way it’s probably not the norm.
A more common way that God speaks to people is through the gift of prophecy. This is when God lays a word of encouragement, edification or comfort on someone’s heart to give to another person.
The result is that the recipient not only gets built up and strengthened but they also get to know how special and loved they are by God who has singled them out.
For these reasons we actively encourage the gift of prophecy at Revival Church.
With all prophetic words given to us it’s important that we personally weigh them up before God to check that they resonate with us and with him. All prophecy is delivered through the filter of another human being but God will help us know if all, some or none of it is from him.
Do you need to hear God speak to you personally? Our Ministry Team are on hand at the end of our meetings to speak prophetically into your life.
And of course, if you are a Christian you’ll have the Holy Spirit living in you and you can expect him to be speaking to your spirit life-giving words that strengthen, correct, direct and encourage.
It’s one thing to talk about God speaking, another to action it, so here are some prophetic words that I believe God has given me for some or all who are reading this article and for you to then weigh up.
Here they are:
‘You feel that you’re just limping through life and that everything is an effort. God would have you put your complete trust in him because he has a promise for you, taken from Bible book Isaiah 40:31, ‘Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’
‘Friendships have caused you much pain over the years and whilst you may feel tempted to give up on trusting anyone ever again, I believe that God would have you know that he will never fail you, misjudge you or speak ill of you. As you allow yourself to trust in his unfailing love for you he will help you to once again trust others. He wants to heal the hurt so that you can put your guards down and allow new friends into your life as well as restoring old friendships.’
‘As you’ve looked up into the moonlit, night sky you have called out, “God, if you’re really there, show yourself to me”. God has heard the cry of your heart and would have you know that not only has he heard you but he has responded. I believe that his words to you are these. “My child, you are not alone on this planet. I have always known you and have always been reaching into your heart with tokens of my love for you. The plans I have for your life are far more wonderful than you could ever imagine. You have dreams that you filed away, long ago, but in relationship with me we can see them fulfilled.’
If you believe that God has spoken to you through any of these prophetic words we’d love to hear from you.
