19 Aug Pastors’ Update
What foundations are our lives built upon?
In September we’re beginning a new teaching series at Revival Church aimed at strengthening our foundations as Christians.
This will involve equipping us with some tools to help mine even deeper riches from the Bible and to strengthen our core beliefs. The starting point in all of this is that of putting our complete trust in Jesus Christ and in the word of God. Everything else is built upon this foundation.
In fact the two are inextricably linked. Jesus is referred to as the Word and we know the Bible as the word of God. So, we cannot say that we trust in Jesus but not in the Bible – and vice versa. And it is the Bible that helpfully explains what it actually means to put our faith in Jesus Christ.
Is it going to church? Is it reading the Bible? Is it doing good?
Well, all of these are the necessary outworking of our faith but they won’t ever make us right with God. What God requires is that we recognise that not only are we out of line with him but that we are powerless to earn our salvation.
Only embracing the truth that his Son, Jesus Christ took the punishment for our wrongdoing by dying on the cross and was raised from the dead by God to be our Saviour and Lord will secure our right-standing (righteousness) in his eyes.
We live in our world of uncertainty and in which it is difficult to know who to trust. Life can often feel like we are building on shifting sands and anytime soon it could all come crashing down around us. That’s not the way God intends for it to be.
Yes, there will inevitably be trials and troubles – we cannot escape such things. But for those whose lives are rooted in Jesus Christ there is the promise of God’s protection, provision and a peace that surpasses circumstances. By putting our trust in Jesus our lives are immediately anchored in the God who holds all things together.
If you have never made Jesus your Saviour and Lord, below is a short prayer which I would invite you to pray. In doing so you will forever establish your life upon the firmest of foundations, that of Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you died for my sins; that you were buried; that you rose again on the third day. I now repent of my sins and come to you for mercy and forgiveness. By faith in your promise, I receive you personally as my Saviour and Lord. Come into my heart, give me eternal life, make me a child of God. Amen•
If you prayed that prayer please let us know. We’d love to help build your life on the firm foundations of Jesus Christ and his unfailing word.
