Pastors’ Update

The subject of influence is something that we have been unpacking recently at Revival Church.

Each one of us will make a difference to this world by the lives that we live.  We will influence those we do life with and the environments in which we live. The big question, though, is will we bring heaven’s influence and therefore eternal fruit?

Jesus taught us that we are to be salt and light in the world.

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’ Matthew 5:13-20

Salt and light both influence the environments they are in.

You don’t need much salt to greatly improve the taste of a meal and a small source of light can have a great impact in a big expanse of darkness. We may think that our influence is small and insignificant but never underestimate the huge impact that it can have.

I love this quote that I came across recently.

‘Small things become great when done with love’.

When I look back over my life the people who have had the greatest positive influence on me are not necessarily those that I spent most time with. Quality does not necessarily equate with quantity. Those who have had the greatest impact on me are those who have intentionally chosen to put God first in their lives no matter what the cost. They have laid down their lives for the sake of the Kingdom of God.

Jesus taught us to seek first the Kingdom of God.  To put him as number one in our lives.

When we do that we are positioning ourselves to be open to his leading and guiding – to bring heaven’s rule and reign wherever we are and whoever we are with.

My prayer is that God will position each of us as influencers for him, exactly where he wants us to be and that we would have the courage to say yes to every opportunity – big or small – that he leads us into.

Have  great summer.
