16 Nov Pastors’ Update
November has turned out to be the month in which we focus on two of our partner organisations, Christian Concern and Maoz Israel.
We’ve already had a visit from Ade Omooba, co-founder of Christian Concern – you can listen to his powerful and timely message by clicking here – and on November 27th we welcome back Brian Greenaway, National Director of Maoz Israel UK.
Why do we connect with these Christian organisations?
In short, it has everything to do with aligning ourselves with Jesus’ priorities.
Jesus stated to believers in Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth” and in Proverbs 14: 34 we are told that ‘Righteousness exalts a nation‘.
Christian Concern is involved at a national level in the spheres of justice and righteousness in the media, law courts and government.
In partnering with them we are able to support an organisation that has access to spheres of influence which we don’t have as a local church but to count ourselves in as part of God’s redemptive purposes for the UK.
Another priority of God’s is Israel.
God raised up this nation to reveal himself to a world which had, by and large rejected him.
Through Jesus – a Jew – God provided salvation to all who would believe in his Son.
But whilst many reject Israel for reasons of politics, prejudice or a perhaps misplaced biblical perspective, we do well to recognise that the covenant which God made with the Jewish people was never revoked.
For those of us who would call ourselves Christians we are reminded in Bible book Romans 11:17-18 of the debt of gratitude we owe to Israel.
‘But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.‘
So how do we align ourselves with Jesus’ priorities?
One way is through prayer. We pray for situations which are on God’s heart in ways that are in accordance with his will.
Why not join us in praying for our nation, for Israel and for other matters at one of our regular Prayer Hours.
With every blessing
